France isn’t just for fine dining—sometimes the best meals are the casual ones locals swear by.
Today, we’re in Dijon, sharing a laid-back restaurant that’s big with tourists, trusted by locals, and perfect for a no-fuss lunch in between your adventures. We were lucky enough to be taken there by a local—and trust us, it’s a solid pick!

Bouillon Notre Dame-Why We Recommend This Spot in Dijon

This is what we’d call a no-fuss, local-style French restaurant. No fancy wine glasses here—think more of a cozy, everyday neighborhood bistro.

We were brought here by local friends who said, “It’s cheap and good,” and they were right. They even brought their dog, who joined us upstairs at our table. The place is kid- and pet-friendly, with high chairs for little ones and a warm welcome for four-legged guests too.

Now, a word of advice: don’t raise your hand to wave the server over. I did, and my local friend warned, “If you do that, they’ll definitely come slower.”
Why? Who knows—some kind of reverse psychology? Maybe just the rhythm of French hospitality. Lesson learned: once you’re seated, relax and let them come to you. I should’ve ordered a glass of wine right away and settled in.

When our server finally arrived, we jumped at the chance to order everything we’d been eyeing, along with a generous pour of local wine.

We were totally stuffed… but still couldn’t resist dessert.

Île flottante with pink pralines – €5.90 It was like a fancy mousse—light, airy, and elegant

By the time we finished, the line outside had grown long.
So glad we came early!
